Bio-Innovation Taiwan is a non-profit organization made of volunteers. Their goal is to provide an actual platform through regular bio-forums for people with different specialties to meet with each other and establish an interdepartmental partnership. In the past, they have hosted more than 50 events in both Mandarin and English and built up a community with more than 500 members including entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, industry players, and medical professionals.

In the upcoming forum, the topics related to novel technologies and related business strategies with real life case studies will be covered. In the first section, the speakers will present three major trends in next-generation informatics and clinical laboratories: high sensitivity Point-of-Care Testing, tailored and modular automation systems, and cloud-based genetic data analysis. In the second section, they will discuss the branding and marketing of medical devices with two international experts.

The speakers for this forum are Dai Saito from Konica Minolta, Philippe Lin from DNArails, Martin Hiesboeck from Geber brand consulting, Sofiane Bennacer from Biomedic consulting and Andy Chen from Fans international.

Being patient-centered and utilizing goal-directed techniques point-of-care testing (POCT) has been employed effectively in rapid decision-making processes for clinical care particularly when used in disaster situations. Through the culmination of continued interdepartmental conversations technologies related to the current POCT platform have become increasingly more concise compared with traditional cumbersome laboratory instruments and tests of old with the added benefits of higher accuracy-equivalent testing along with shorter turnaround times for test results. POCT not only reduces clinical operating times, effectively reducing costs but also aids in chronic disease management with its user-friendly interface and personalized design. Recently, the well-known Konica Minolta Company has optimized its surface plasma field-enhanced fluorescence spectroscopy technology and produced a high-sensitivity POCT system with laboratory equivalent performance. We will start our event with the introduction of Konica Minolta’s about to launch POCT system and then discuss its product positioning and business development strategies.

During the past decade with the goal of improving laboratory processes, many world famous laboratory diagnostic companies have provided lab automation tracking systems that can effectively minimize the number of manual processes done in the lab. Although to date no automated tracking system has effectively demonstrated significant reductions in lab time and workforce, a Taiwanese startup team called Fans International is now able to provide tailored modular automation tracking systems for use in various settings in healthcare institutions with the ability to minimize manual errors and also increase efficiency in the lab. Fans International’s solutions are capable not only of integrating different instruments in the lab but also the laboratory information systems used for lab data analysis resulting in improved lab efficiency and management. Fans International will demonstrate how they are able to utilize their modular design concept by demonstrating actual cases of a functional unmanned laboratory.

Following the formally initiated Era of Precision Medicine announced by President Obama in the US, cancer genomic research projects are striving to develop better prevention and treatment methods. Precision Medicine often involves the application of panomic analysis and system biology so that data analysis across multiple databases is required. DNArails, as an innovative bio-startup that originated in Taiwan, has applied machine learning (AI) to genetic analysis in order to assist clinicians and researchers find gene related answers more quickly and easily. DNArails will present their first self-developed cloud-based genetic analysis platform and explain how their simplified data management interface is being utilized in clinical and commercial laboratories in various countries internationally.

As innovative startups focus the development of their technologies, the development of branding and market strategies are imperative to encourage the success of product commercialization. While branding establishes clients’ loyalty and adherence to an individual company’s vision and core competency, marketing unearths and activates buyers to increase revenues. In the second half of the July 21st event, we have invited experts from both branding and marketing teams working with medical devices. Mr. Martin Hiesboeck, the CMO of Geber Branding Consulting, and Mr. Sofiane Bennacer, the CEO of Biomedic Consulting are going to share their experiences with Taiwanese teams and how they have successfully helped develop branding and marketing strategies with their clients. With the first goal of total solutions, innovative teams are able to transform excellent technologies into popular products, both locally and internationally.
